Mining companies lodge their applications on the Earth Resources website, part of the Victoria Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes they are lodged months in advance of advertising to the public, or sometimes just shortly before advertising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is it important to object to exploration licences?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Unlike every other field of law, silence is taken as consent if people don\u2019t object to mining licence applications.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although exploration licences are rarely refused, objections demonstrate that miners does not have a social licence granted by local communities. The number of objections received is noted by the regulating body (ERR). Assumptions are made that people are in favour unless there are objections.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now is the time to speak out (via an objection or comment) if you have any concerns at all. <\/strong>Then ask your friends and family to do the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
